Then he showed me a small thing, the size of a hazelnut, nestled in the palm of his hand. It was round as a ball… Such a tiny object stood for all creation! I became aware that we should dismiss as nothing all that is created, so we can fully receive and adore our uncreated God. ~ Revelations of Divine Love, Julian of Norwich
Inspired by Pope Francis’ letters about the ongoing climate crisis (“Laudato Si” - 2015 and “Laudate Deum” - 2023: visit https://bit.ly/4bW3L2s, the OLS Social Justice Group will coordinate the Seeds of Hope initiative again this summer. Last year, though many enjoyed growing green beans, some shared that they were challenged by lack of space, water, light and/or time. So, to be more inclusive, we have decided to do things a bit differently:
Weekend of Saturday, June 22 - Sunday, June 23
At the back of the church after all weekend Masses, members of the OLS Social Justice Group will hand out green bean seeds (to those who request them, along with growing instructions). If you are willing to share an email with us, we will send you a harvest reminder.
Saturday, August 24 to Friday, August 30 (a smaller harvest)
After all weekend Masses, members will collect your harvested green beans, as well as any other produce that you have grown and wish to donate. Through the rest of that week, baskets will be stationed at the back entrance and near the east door. All produce collected will be donated to the Good Shepherd Refuge.
Saturday, September 21 to Friday, September 27 (hopefully, a bigger autumn harvest)
After all Masses, we will collect any produce grown or purchased that you wish to donate. Throughout the week, baskets will again be left at the church entrance (Bloor St.). All produce collected will be donated to the St. Francis Table.
Thank you for participating in the OLS Seeds of Hope initiative and for sharing your harvest!
