Earth Day

Sowing Seeds of Hope

Members from the OLS Social Justice Group will be handing out small packages of 12 Bush Beans, the weekend of May 20/21.

All parishioners to invited to take a package home and plant them in a sunny patch in their gardens. Apart from needing a good amount of sun, these bush beans aren’t fussy and can be planted in pots, hanging baskets, planters or a patch of soil. This is a great activity for all -- especially with children!

This initiative by the OLS Social Justice Group was inspired by Pope Francis’ 2015 letter to the whole church entitled “Laudato Si” (Praise be to you). Pope Francis shared his reflections on the vital importance of living in greater harmony with nature and one another. Like the 12 Apostles who were sent out, the hope is that these seeds will result in an abundant harvest to share!

On the weekend of August 12th and 13th, we invite you to bring back some of your bean harvest to Mass! Our collective harvest will then be donated to the kitchen of the Good Shepherd Refuge.
